"It's great having your own home. It's total freedom."
Due to his paranoia, Jeff was homeless for 4 years. He would stay in a shelter or find a
secluded spot to sleep, preferably a car. During the day Jeff would look for odd jobs to
earn some extra cash. After participating in the A Place To Start (APTS), Jeff is now
housed permanently in his own apartment.
South Richmond
In 1996, Virginia Supportive Housing opened its second supportive residence, formerly a crime ridden motel. South Richmond is home to 39 formerly homeless single adults. Like New Clay House, tenants pay 30% of their income as rent, with a minimum rent payment of $50 per month. Support services are available to help tenants remaining in permanent housing, increasing their skills and income and achieving greater self determination.
