South Richmond Addition
Virginia Supportive Housing (VSH) is building an addition to South Richmond SRO located at 5409 Hull Street Road in Richmond, Virginia. The addition will provide twenty-one (21) new studio apartments with comprehensive supportive services for formerly homeless single adults from the Richmond area with regional support from the City of Richmond, Henrico County, and Chesterfield County. Eleven units will be accessible for formerly homeless single adults with disabilities.
The addition will contain 13,856 square feet. Each unit is approximately 380 square feet and contains a kitchenette with full refrigerator and range oven, full bathroom, and closet. Furnishings are provided in each apartment, including a bed, dresser, table, and chair. In addition to apartments, the building has a community room with kitchen, laundry facilities, a front desk, staff offices, and a computer room. The front desk is staffed sixteen hours per day, and a resident manager is on-call in the evenings. The building has an extensive security system, off-street parking, and access to public transportation. Support services are available to help residents stabilize and improve their health, incomes, and housing. The Studios at South Richmond will be EarthCraft Virginia-certified for green building and resource and energy efficiency and will incorporate a photovoltaic solar energy system designed to reduce the building's energy load by 20%. Total development costs are estimated to be approximately $3 million.
