Located in Richmond, Veterans Apartments is a two-story, four-unit brick apartment building that was renovated in 2008 to provide permanent housing with comprehensive support services to eight formerly homeless disabled veterans. The two first floor apartments are fully accessible for four tenants with disabilities. Each apartment includes two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room and a full kitchen with appliances. The building has access to sidewalks, public bus transportation and off-street parking.
In addition to the homeless service providers in Central Virginia, the McGuire Veterans Medical Center provides a range of physical, mental health and other supportive services for eligible veterans living in VSH housing. Residents pay 30% of their individual monthly income for rent. Supportive Housing Program funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was used for the acquisition, renovation and operating costs of the apartments. Additional funding was provided by the Commonwealth of Virginia and private foundations. For additional details on programs and services for Veterans, click here.
