A Place to Start (APTS)

A Place To Start (APTS), a program of VSH, provides permanent housing and comprehensive mental health services to individuals in the Greater Richmond area who have a history of chronic homelessness as well as a serious mental illness. We recently sat down with two members of the VSH APTS team to chat about the program, their roles within it and what makes it so unique.

Three Blocks to Home

Our friends at the Hampton Roads Community Foundation were kind enough to put together this video following the life of one of our amazing clients, Robert. Strong partnerships like the ones we have with the Hampton Roads Community Foundation and the Portsmouth Volunteers For The Homeless make our mission to end homelessness possible.

Volunteer Appreciation!

We don’t know where we would be if not for the hard work and dedication of all of our amazing volunteers! Each year in early spring, Volunteer Appreciation Week is celebrated across the country. It’s a wonderful opportunity to let all of those hard-working volunteers put their feet up and enjoy some time celebrating the many differences they make in their community. VSH spoke with a number of our volunteers and the clients they served to better show how much of an impact volunteerism makes!

Stories of Hope: Virginia Supportive Housing

“Stories of Hope” is a documentary film that captures how VSH is working to end homelessness in Virginia and improving lives and communities. It’s an emotional piece filled with the stories of formerly homeless persons who now have stable incomes and housing thanks to the work of VSH and our partner providers. The 14-minute film was created for use in presentations about our organization. Although it’s lengthy, the stories of hope are so engaging and inspirational they are well worth the time. If you don’t have time to watch the complete film don’t think we need this and the first line that defines it as 14 minutes, a 6-minute web version is ready to view. Special thanks to Elevation and SpangTV for producing the film.

Feng Shui Planning in VSH Communities

We also invite you to watch a video about the effective use of feng shui in some of our communities. This approach has had many benefits for our residents. This information and brief video offers a great overview. Special thanks to Kevin Walters of Feng Shui Planning for producing the video.
